Our History

What the Funk?! An All POC Burlesque Tribute to Funk Music was conceived as a show ideain early 2018 after I thought about doing a classic burlesque number to a Stevie Wonder song, but realizing it wouldn't count as a classic era song choice. This got my wheels turning and What the Funk?! was born. On August 24, 2018 we kicked off two nights of two all POC casts at the historic Jewelbox Theatre in The Rendezvous in Seattle, Washington. Featuring our headliner both nights, spICE! as well as featured performers such as 2018 Queen of Roses of the Oregon Burlesque Festival Nox Falls, and two of Portland's finest Dahlia Kash and Honeydew La Roux, What the Funk?! was made up of powerhouse performers of color.

As we wrapped on night two, I made the decision to bring What the Funk?! back in 2019, but as a festival. The joy experienced backstage as well as on stage was just too magical to not do so. Wheels were set in motion immediately and a larger venue booked.

What We Are Now

What the Funk?!An All POC Burlesque Festival is produced by Puckduction and The Stay Up Late Show, powered by Shunpike.

Featuring over 50+ performers over three days we plan on bringing the funk to Seattle. With headliners Egypt Blaque Knyle, Nox Falls, Tre` Da Marc and The Luminous Pariah, the first ever Master of Funk crown up for grabs and a weekend filled with POC art we know that What the Funk?! will be a wonderful time for all those who plan to be a part of our first year.

We are so pleased to be bringing what the Funk?! to the historic Columbia City Theater. The Columbia City neighborhood of seattle is a historically black neighborhood that has seen its fair share of gentrification over the years. Our hope is to bring more of Columbia City’s soul back to it during our festival.

What the Funk?! An All POC Burlesque Festival will be taking place in the Emerald City, aka Seattle, Washington on August 22-24, 2019.
